Petition
Published 4 months, 4 weeks ago in Where I Live.Anyone interested in signing a petition to remove the fence and mound of soil around the Brunswick football field, so the park can be accessed better by local residents. The park has a wonderful grandstand and is well used by sporting groups. The residents in the areas would like to see the park being used by the community more. It would be great if there was funding for the development of a community garden, as more and more housing developments are being developed. Near by residents are hoping Council will look at this proposal with favour and as a long term project which will enhance our community focused neighbourhood.

Dont know about your council, but mine will not accept online petitions. We had over a thousand signatures, and they would not accept them at all.
Glen Eira Council told residents “that anyone can stand by a railway and request a signature, it means nothing and people will sign it so no one will be offended, mostly by people who give a false name and address”…
However, the same Councillors didn’t take that attitude when it came to getting rid of Kittens Car Wash with the girls in their bikinis….Although limited I believe to less than 100 signatures, all efforts were made to address the demise of the car wash as it stood!
Good luck with your petition. Perhaps in an election year for your Councillors, the hard line personal approach may reap better rewards.
This petition is not an online petition, but it is about time councils got with the times and accepted the legitimacy of online communication as valid.
same here. and it has to be in a prescribed form. also to be accepted it should be presented by a councillor preferably from your ward. good luck, because in here petitions do not carry any weight unless votes depend on it.
In Glen Eira there have been plenty of petitions tabled. What’s happened to them? they’ve been ‘received and noted’ and then disappeared into the dustbin of history! It would be interesting to undertake an audit on how many were actually responded to; how many were acted upon; and how many linger somewhere in the administration’s archives never to see the light of day again. I would suggest that you mobilise your supporters, have them show up at council meetings, and kick up a real stink! Be visible, loud, and demanding and remind them again and again
harry, you are absolutely right. make sure that the gallery is at least 100 strong and a Leader reporter is there. a demonstration in front of the town hall, library or some other landmark with media attending will also help.
